The City of New York Parks department purchases FSC Certified tropical hardwoods for their many outdoor park benches and boardwalks. These benches are located in City Hall Park in downtown New York. The World’s Fair bench is a standard design used for many NYC parks. The bench slats shown in these photos are kiln dried ipe from FSC Certified forests in Bolivia. Kiln dried tropical hardwoods are more stable in service and are less likely to check after installation.
